Liberty Print summer skirt
I wanted to share with you one of my recent makes, this pretty Liberty print skirt.
I have to confess I bought the fabric last summer and with the busyness of motherhood I never quite got around to getting much further than a cut out pattern.
It seems like my habits will never change I always have a circle of projects on the go at once, some more suited to cosy winter evenings and others where I just have to put my mind to it, get the music on and sew the day away.
The pattern I used was this simple Simplicity pattern 1200 as seen above. As you can see it says Easy-to-sew. Trust me it really is a great easy pattern so if you are new to sewing its a perfect choice.
As long as you have the basic skills about laying out your pattern on the straight grain and basic sewing machine skills, this pattern will work for you.
I love using these Fiskars scissors for cutting out dress patterns as they keep your hand above the cutting line unlike normal scissors. They take some getting used to with the locking button but they really do aid perfect cutting out.
To add a little feature I made a trim in yellow using the same pattern fabric. This is not complicated to do as there is a pattern piece for this feature.
I always have the iron at the ready when I sew, its really important to press as you go for a lovely finish.
The skirt is almost a full circle and in this Liberty Tana Lawn fabric it has a lovely drape.
We could not resist taking some pictures in this wonderful yellow field. These fields are dotted all over the landscape at this time of year and it seemed a fitting backdrop for this outfit.
I have teamed this skirt with a simple Boden yellow stripe T shirt, my Jigsaw Denim jacket, chunky neon lime beads from Joules last spring collection and these super affordable navy canvas pumps from Tu Clothing. For the Canvas Pumps click here-
I love the quality of the boden T.shirts they are a real staple in my wardrobe, I love a good stripe and I do seem to have plenty of them.

This is a real sunshine outfit!
Wearing with these pumps just gives it a fun casual look.
Joshua enjoyed running up and down amongst this yellow flower, we all managed to get a little tough of yellow pollen on our clothes, but Joshua more so than the rest of us.
I hope this post inspires you to explore the possibility of a little spring dress making, perhaps plan to make something simple like this skirt in time for the summer.
