Romantic Broderie Anglaise
I'm such a huge fan of white broderie anglaise, its so romantic and fresh. I've shared this designer's collection before, but I have to share it again by Philosophy by Lorenzo Sefafini. The collection was beautifully feminine, and full of nostalgia.
This past week we visited York, we headed to the beautiful National trust property Beningbrough Hall, It was a stunning property and location and we have lots to share from here in the coming posts.
I loved this old Victorian Laundry room, it was filled with beautiful crisp white linens and embroidered lace.
It reminded me so much of the Philosophy collection, how little has changed and how we still have a love for this fine prettiness now, in fashion today.
More examples of beautiful whites in the York Castle museum.
In Beningborough you could look up close at these lovely historical fabrics, I was in my element.
I love this drawn thread work at the bottom of this photo.
Look at these fine pin tucks, just beautiful.
Broderie Anglaise is French for English Embroidery, the technique is white work using embroidery, cutwork and needlelace. It became famous for England in the 19th century, due to its popularity in fashion at the time. Of course the technique dates back further than that, but the popularity picked up momentum in that time.
Being such a huge fan of this look I was excited to see the new window displays in Gap showing off these beautiful blouses part of their 'New Romantics' collection. Available in store now, I will certainly be putting one of these on my must have list, they are lovely. Also if you are unfamiliar with the brand Noa Noa, go check them out, you can always rely on them for this pretty feminine look.
