We love visiting Yorkshire, there is so much to see and do in the area. Saltaire is one of our favourite places to visit, Salts Mill to be precise. Salts Mill is like no other place I have visited before, there is an atmosphere as soon as you walk in. You are often greeted by the sounds of some wonderful operatic or classical music, this somehow transports you straight away into a relaxed place. I can't really describe it the place has wonderful acoustics for the music, with the tall mill ceiling and long room and immense space, you just want to find a good book and an easy chair and just stay there for the rest of the day.
Salts Mill is also home to lots of wonderful art work from the Yorkshire born artist David Hockney, and its great to get so up close to some of these fantastic art works in such a creative beautiful space.
This space is perfect for displaying such work and you feel so privileged to see it in this setting.
There are many places to sit and reflect and read a book.
The children's book area is such a delight and I loved how the children were encouraged to browse and take a look at the books, in their own special place.
Joshua was so happy here.
As were Naomi and Caleb.
The shop floor is full of beautiful notebooks, gifts, art materials, and a fantastic range of books. You find things here that you might not find in your average bookshop.
Davinder enjoying a textile book.
Another floor houses a beautiful interior shop with great unusual items and stylish gifts for the home.
And a visit to Salts Diner for a refreshing cup of tea is essential.
More of David Hockney's work hangs in the Diner, I love his stunning use of colour.
And some of David Hockney's photography.
As you can see this space is so vast, if you love books or art then you should certainly visit this place. There are further galleries on other floors along with an antiques shop and a music shop.
We had a great afternoon here, and there was still plenty we never got to see on this visit due to time, but we will always visit this place when we are in the area.
