The Bright almost buttercup looking flowers of oilseed rape fields look so striking in our english countryside, and for a couple of months in spring they give us the wow factor on our landscape. We've noticed this more than ever before due to the plants popularity and desirability for use in food.
Well whatever the reason this plant has become a farmer's favourite we enjoy these fields for their amazing vibrant yellow colour, and welcome the change on the scenery around us. Spotting the Yellow fields on a dull car journey is always a good distraction for the kids for a while at least.
Recently we got up close to these plants rather than spotting from our car. This day was such a lovely spring and pleasantly warm day. We headed out on our bikes, picnic packed and carried in the baskets.
Our route took us along 'The Brampton Valley Way' which is a 14 mile stretch of disused railway, its been turned into a great cycle/walking track. we never reached anything like 14 miles on our little adventure (when you head out with three kids everything is an adventure!) We did however go far enough that our kids had a huge sense of achievement.
The best thing for us about days like these is its perfect family time. Kids get confident on their bikes, they have time to chat as we cycle along and its rewarding for them. There is nothing better than the great outdoors with your kids.
Why not see whats on your doorstep this weekend and head out on a cycling adventure. Lets hope the sun shines.
