Autumn Days In Amsterdam
Working as Textile designer I get the opportunity to travel and this is something I enjoy. For me its an opportunity to discover new cities to scout new stores both new and Vintage. It gives me pleasure to walk the streets and soak in the vibe of a place, to sit over a coffee and people watch. And this post is really a continuation from my previous post on Amsterdam...
in this post I want to share about my Autumn day in this beautiful city. Imagine strolling the streets of Amsterdam where the yellow leaves contrast with the red shutters on the buildings. The city is a ray of Autumnal colours and although its cold the sun keeps you warm as you stroll the streets in search of inspiration, which was not difficult to find. Everywhere I looked I found nuggets of inspiration wether it be the impressive architecture, the beautiful canals or the many boutiques especially in the area know as ' De 9 Straatjes '( The 9 Streets).
This trendy cool neighbourhood is full of vintage and designer shops and is made up of 9 Streets hence the name. The cobbled streets connect two of the canals Leidsegracht and Raadhuisstraat. It is also a home to coffee shops and restaurants.
One of the shops that I did visit awhile back but was eager to find it again was the 'Mint Mini Mall'. This beautiful little shop is on the cobbled street Runstaat where I found lots of inspiration.
As I walked in I was greeted by the lovely Suzanne. She not only owned this store but the one next door called Beauregard selling womenswear ... and if you love knitwear definitely pop in here. Suzanne and I got chatting and exchanged stories of our kids and showed each other photos of our little munchkins. And after that she kindly let take photos of this quaint little shop. If your looking for gifts for friends and loved ones then you will find it hard not to leave the shop with out a little purchase. You can tell that Suzanne has considered each item on display from the luxurious knitwear for kids, the beautiful leather goods and basketweaves.
The layout of the store is non fussy .....even the way the clothes are hung on simple coat hangers makes it easy to shop. The cute little shoes on display make you just want to buy them...... a lovely gift for those soon to be parents.
The white floor boards and wall enhance this little cove of colour and loveliness...
Love these natural soft colours
Hard to resist buying these little shoes
Cute soft toys and baby sleepwear in an up cycled wardrobe....
What I loved about this shop was the variety of gifts for all ages. But most of all the beautiful colours that surrounded you as you immerse yourself in the store. Especially the colours on the homeware and kidswear departments. My favourite item was the mini ceramic plates with the words ' I love you' to 'You Rock' and ' Joy'. The bright pastels colours looked so fresh and would brighten any kitchen display. For me these were conversational pieces for those cosy chats around the kitchen table with friends and family.
Love these Soft Bright colours.....
Beautiful pops of lime green and turquoise.
Loved the non-uniform of each display such great colour palates.
Having spent some time in this shop I can see why its appealing to so many people. Suzanne has created a shop that is understated yet has so much to offer. It really is a little cove full of treasures especially for those that have little ones. This shop is eclectic and fresh with unique items which draw you in and you leave the shop with a smile on your face and can't wait for the next visit.
